XOXO,
Well Merry Christmas!!!
I had so many patterned gift wrapping ideas for this season and well… ya know how it goes! Oh the holidaze… Oh life…
Since I ended up not DIYing any of my gifts this Christmas, I wanted to share last years’ that, well, never made it to the blog either… Okay, next year I will get it together! ;)
As most of you know, I had my very first born November 27th of 2013. So this time last year, from Thanksgiving to New Years, I was like, “WHAAAAA?!?” Somehow in between back to back feedings and sporadic crying fits (and when I say “crying fits,” I’m not talking about the baby- new moms cry A LOT too, ya know - haha)… Thru all that craziness, I managed to pull off some pretty cute DIYed presents if I must say! hehe
My apologies for the poor images. I may have had a baby literally attached to me while taking these pictures, if you know what I mean… :)
Things You’ll Need
1. Good ole brown packing paper you can get from just about anywhere. I get mine from either Lowes or Target.
2. Any patterned paper. You can find holiday patterned paper at any craft store! Or you can design something yourself like I did for this wrap job. I printed my patterns out on cardstock so I wouldnt have to tape the shapes completely down to the brown paper.
3. Yarn or any ribbon. I used red yarn for these.
4. Mini Candy Canes
5. And tape, duh… ;)
That’s it! It was really easy!
PS - I originally REEEEEAAAALLLLLLLYYY REALLY wanted to get these patterns I designed printed on actual wrapping paper to wrap my gifts with… And, well, I did, buuuuut the print job was terrible. If you know a good place/website to get your own designs printed on wrapping paper, please comment!
Happy Holidays everyone! LOVE!
XOXO,
Who has been watching “House of DVF” on E!? Okay, these girls that are candidates for DVF’s Brand Ambassador are terrible, but I am a sucker for anything Diane Von Furstenburg so I am hooked! I just love Diane, the DVF brand and what it represents for women, that wrap dress (of course), and helllllooooo, the prints and patterns kill me. DVF is literally at the top of my list for everything! But bc of the show, I have been thinking and dreaming about DVF even more than usual. My fairy tale is not meeting my prince (mainly bc I have already met him - haha). MY fairy tale would be to work for the Princess! I mean… can I please design patterns for Diane Von Furstenburg while wearing a DVF wrap dress everyday?
I see pattern…
…on wrap dresses and more!
I have posted DVF textiles before here on I See Pattern. This brand is just so inspiring!
Tis the season for giving… If you havent quite finished your Christmas shopping, this book written by Diane herself is perfect for every woman on your list! I bought it for myself from myself (hee hee) aaaand I am giving it out to a few special ladies in my life!
XOXO,
Hi Friends,
I wanted to take a moment to reconnect a bit… As you know, I have been out of the creative loop for a year or so now staying at home with my sweet baby boy. I started posting again here and there about a month ago, but I still struggle to get to my computer… Trying to juggle the many things that LIFE throws at us is tough as we all know! Especially during the holidays! So, I just wanted to stop in and say HIIIIII and Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope that you will stay with me here as I try to find and make time to devote to this blog. My goal always is to inspire and share what I see. I come across something every day that I want to talk about and show you. I have so many ideas for this blog minutely and so many goals for my own textile career. My brain is always thinking up something… :) Anyway, i hope you are all surviving the holiday season. This time of year is so special!
XOXO,
You might see something inspiring!
I see pattern…
… at my feet.
Hi patternistas! THEY say (whomever they is) to keep your head held high and your CHIN UP! While that is great advice for every human being out there, look what I saw when I put my chin down!
My little one is in a Mother’s Day Out program once a week now! Woo hoooooooo, a little free time for the mommy! Like Northpark Mall (mentioned in my last post), I, also, like to gather inspiration at Mockingbird Station, an outdoor shopping center in my neighborhood here in Dallas. The stores are great, there is a small indie theater I sometimes see movies at and my nail place is there. On one of my MDO days, I went to Mockingbird Station to hang out and catch up on some me-time! As I walked to my nail place for a much needed mani, I saw some pretty cool concrete textures and patterns on the ground. The polka dots above are my absolute favorite!
The broken concrete in image 3 (i like to call that checker board or it could also be an example of plaid) and the wavy lined stripe pattern below are images I took while strolling with my son down Greenville Avenue by Granada Theater (if you are a Dallasinian). Hanging around outside where ever you may be is always a great way to find pattern inspiration. So, maybe, occasionally, keeping your chin down can be worth it! ;)
And before I go…
The marketing team at Banana may be inspired by the same idea! What do you think?
After taking my concrete patterned pictures, I was at Northpark (yes AGAIN - haha #obsessemuch) with my husband and saw Banana Republic’s Window Displays! They say (again, who is they) that great minds think alike! Banana, call me! ;)
XOXO,
I see pattern…
…on pumpkins and not the decorated kind! ;)
Soooo pumpkins, huh? Should I be blogging about Christmas-y stuff already?? Why am I kinda wanting to skip this post and go straight into fa la la la la? This life we live in moves too fast, I tell ya. Haha While so many pinners, bloggers, and retail stores are already decking the halls (I will be joining in on that fun soon…), I want to live in Nov (ya know that month in between Halloween and Thanksgiving) for one more fabulous pumpkin post.
I often see tons of amazing things at Northpark Mall here in Dallas that are both tasteful (not ur typical mall) and artistically inspiring. I find myself snapping pics for this blog a lot and for my instagram. While most malls (i really dislike the word mall btw…) around the world focus in on their Christmas holiday presentation, Northpark pays just as much attention to all the holidays and seasons year round. Similar to the Bellagio in Vegas, Northpark knows how to spend some money on some pumpkins for their fabulous Fall display! ;) Take a look at what I saw this October! They really out did themselves this year! The patterns on some of these pums are just to die for! Enjoy!
I see stripes, tie dye, camouflage, distressed and splattered patterns, marble prints, bumpy textures, circle shapes, gradients, swirls, speckled dots, color blocking, and even water marbling in the pictures of the gourds. What did you see?
XOXO,
I see pattern…
…on album covers!
Love Tove Lo and the typographic art found on the cover of her 4 song single album entitled “Truth Serum.”
Enjoy listening and looking! ;)
Also, to coincide with the above image, I wanted to share a bedspread pattern I saw at West Elm last week. The Graphic Designer+Textile Designer combo that I am loves to see a good pattern made with Typography! :)
XOXO,
Hiiiiiii!!!
Hello out there!
It’s Whitney here!
Remember me??
I hope you do! ;) I have been out of the cool hip blogging world for quite some time now! A full year to be exact! I figured it’s a perfect time to come back to I See Pattern! It’s HaLLoWeeN and Halloween is my favorite holiday! Also it just so happens that this time last year was the last time I posted. So, I decided to pick up where I left off (minus a year). HAHA! As you can see in my last post, I was big and pregnant with my lil turkey. I call him (yes him - it was a big ole BOY) my lil turkey bc he was born the day before Thanksgiving last year. Boy, (pun intended) has it been a busy and exciting year at the Catarella house! For those of you who do not follow me on any other social media, my lil turkey’s name is Smith Joseph Catarella. I love him so much it hurts! He has brought more joy and purpose to my life than I ever imagined. Currently, I get to stay at home with little guy and take care of our home and family needs. So that is what I have been doing, earning my title of “stay at home mom!” I have loved every second of it. I mean, not eeeevery second… Bc, ya know, sometimes staying at home with a little one can make you want to pull your hair out (please eat your lunch today… don’t throw it on the floor… please nap… mommy needs to take a shower… haha), but you get my drift! This passed year, I put all work (textile, graphic design, and blogging) on hold to focus on my sweet Smithy. Now at 11 months, I think I am ready to reconnect with my creative soul and start blogging again. I still see pattern everywhere I go and miss sharing it with y'all. To catch up on pics of my sweet boy and my mommy life from this passed year, check out my instagram @iseepattern. Happy Halloween from Smith and I! Stay tuned… pumpkin patterns coming! ;)
XOXO,
Hey everyone! I hope y'all had a scary, fun, and safe Halloween. I wanted to share a picture of me and Baby Cat’s Halloween costume! We decided to go as skeletons! HAHA
Thank you to the Etsy shop “Inspire Your Walls” for the cute and clever maternity iron on!

…on duct tape!
Hey everyone! Looking for a last minute pumpkin decorating diy for Halloween this year? This DIY uses duct tape and some scissors. And it was pretty easy, I must say!
First, pick your patterns and colors of duct tape you want to use. I picked up the zigzag and lime green patterns from JoAnn’s and the mustache printed one was from Home Depot. I couldn’t resist the stache! :{
For the big one, start by lining up the duct tape to one of the the lines on the pumpkin. Because I used real pumpkins, the lines ended up not being an exact guideline for each stripe of tape, but for the most part, they were pretty helpful.
Don’t stick your strips of tape down to the pumpkin completely yet. You will, first, want to cut one side of the tape on a curve so it will fit to the roundness of the pumpkin. I just eyeballed it. If that does not work for you, you may try an X-acto knife instead of scissors. This could be a better option for some. If you stick with the scissors, after a couple cuts, you will start to notice stickiness from the duct tape building up on the blades of your scissors. This will make it harder and harder to cut through the tape. When this starts to happen, grab a paper towel and squirt some Goo Gone on it and wipe away the “goo.” Taking the time to clean your scissors throughout the process will help tremendously. Once you have your strip cut, you can then attach it completely to the pumpkin.
Continue until you have as many stripes of tape on your pumpkin that you need.
As for the other two styles…
Basically, you just cut and stick. Again, I just winged it with my circles (that are not perfect by any means) and my mustache face. Tip - to help make the mustache look more like a mustache, I noticed that leaving the curled ends unstuck from the pumpkin helps. Doing this gives it a little 3D effect. haha
And, if you are worried that you may not be the best at cutting out circles, try triangles! Those are easy and just as cute! Snip, snip, snip, stick, done! :)
And look! What a pretty mess you make with your scraps! haha
I mustache you a question…
Do you think this little guy is handsome or what!? I’d date him! haha
I hope you enjoyed this year’s Punkin’ Decorating DIY. I am really pleased with them.
Side note - If you missed my pumpkin post from last year, check it out here! That was my first attempt at pumpkin decorating. I had no idea what I wanted to do, so I just did a whole lot of everything! I even had a pumpkin painting party and invited all my friends over to experiment with me! We had a blast!
Anyway, Have a very HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! BOO! Fall is the best! ;)
XOXO,
Hey Yall It’s Fall!
I am so sorry for not posting in quite some time… Im cryin’ about it over here, I promise! ;( October has just fuh-lown by, don’t you think?
Side note - That means I have less than two months before my bebe is born!! Holy Crap! - But that’s a-whole-nother story for another time! haha
Even tho Fall is a coming and a going quickly, I have managed to capture some really beautiful Instagram images along the way. Tis the season for PUMPKIN Pics, ya know! Enjoy!
My husband and I just got back from a quick Vegas trip this weekend. We tend to always make our way to Vegas in October which means we are lucky enough to catch the Bellagio Autumn Harvest Exhibit every year. This year they had this amazingly enormous cornucopia display! LOVE all the pumpkins and that big one is so impressive! They always have a couple bigs ones like this every year. I wanna say they are like 400 lbs or prolly more.
Check out all these Instagram shots on my Instagram page if you want a closer look.
