1. I’ve decided what to do what Sokha. I think I’m going to use HER as my English chapter in Polyglossia, because I like her a lot more than I like Maura. Either that or I’m going to do some kind of short-story-manga with her. I’m undecided.
2. When I get paid next week, I’m buying something by the Dalai Lama. I’ve read about him, I’ve looked him up on the internet, but I’ve never actually read one of his books, and that makes me a bad follower. I adore the Dalai Lama - I think he’s honestly the only real idol I’ve ever had. My mom has a few of his books but you know me, I want my own. So I’ll keep the $10 in my bank account there for snacks for my anniversary, and then when I get paid again I’ll go out and grab one of his books. Seriously, just from HEARSAY, I think the current Dalai Lama is probably one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, person to ever be born/reincarnated/exist, period, in the history of ever.
3. I must meet the current Dalai Lama before I die. I will. It is probably the only life goal I have aside from having children.
For my new story. I can’t decide if I should do it as an epistolary novel using emails and texts or if I should do it in third person using all four main characters. Thoughts?
I don’t know if any of you read fantasy, but I write it. I’ve been working on a novel series for the past few years called A History of Blood and Fury. I had to take a break for a bit, as my personal life had gone downhill, but I’m writing again, and I’m actually sharing some online.
A History of Blood and Fury tells the story of a country torn apart by a thousand years of war, of a disposed and slaughter royal family and three factions vying for the throne. The Daramaskans, descendants of the dragonlords, wish to reunite their country and return it to the glory it was a millennia ago. The Darnassjans (pronounced dar-NASH-ens) have shunned the old ways of the dragonlords and are an enlightened folk; however, the murder of the royal family has thrown the country into chaos, and House Lordaryn has emerged to join the country to its ancestor…. with a secret plot of their own. And then there’s the mercenary company with a secret employer and hidden agenda. At the heart of this war is the Schism of the Holy Light, a religious war that itself oversaw the overthrow of the dragonlords and the rise of opposing saints (called sants in Daramaskan and Darnassjan), Sant Emmeryn and Sant Auberon.

So, to summarize: Everyone says AHS is supposed to be funny. No, AHS is supposed to be scary. Maybe you all think it’s funny because you watch too many horror flicks, or you’re just not scared easily. But it’s called American HORROR Story, not American Comedy Hour.
Now, I admit, most people thought AHS was going to deal solely with the supernatural. And in a way, it does. There are ghosts everywhere, and demons. But, in case you haven’t noticed, there are other, real world scary things scattered throughout the episode. The fear of losing a child is present in Vivien’s miscarriages and her worry over her possible demon baby. The fear pregnant women get of “oh my god there’s something wrong with my baby” is present for the same reason. There’s the crazy man who burned his family to death. There’s the pregnant mistress. There’s the child cutting. Why is all of that okay, even the self harm (which, last time I checked, parents get up in arms about when it’s mentioned on TV), but the school shooting isn’t?
Okay, let’s backtrack. The episode in question was shown this previous Wednesday. We learn that one of the most shocking characters, Tate, is in fact dead. He just doesn’t know it. And the entire episode is spent detailing how he died, which was after committing a school shooting. Now, if you remember, he told Vivien’s husband that he has “recurring dreams” of shooting up a school in the pilot episode. They even showed scenes from it. No one batted an eye at that. But when they show an entire episode about it, people are going apeshit.
Calm the fuck down, people. 1) This is a FICTIONAL television show. 2) Again, why can we depict Violet cutting and fantasizing about killing herself, and then ACTUALLY trying to kill herself, but this freaks people out? Way more people try to committ suicide or self harm than shoot up schools. 3) Again, other TV shows have done it (Degrassi’s done it three times) and no one says a thing.
AHS is supposed to be a HORROR story. That means it is allowed to use supernatural horror (the Rubber Man, the Infanta, the ghosts) as well as “real world” horror (suicidal, being at gunpoint, shootings.) If you don’t like the episode, and are afraid bits of it will be mentioned in subsequent episodes, then don’t watch it. If you feel it’s insulting to those affected by school shootings, well then shouldn’t Violet cutting/committing suicide be offensive to those who self harm or have tried to committ suicide? Because I’ve done both those things and I have no complaint with them being shown on AHS.
Again: Calm the fuck down, people. If you don’t like it, DON’T WATCH. Simple as that.

This is actually one of the few “polyglot problems” I don’t experience. The second I see those loops and dotted letters, my eye/hand immediately goes to the start of the sentence at the right, and after writing/reading Arabic, I can go back to reading left to right with no problem.
I think I WOULD have a problem, though, if I were used to writing English in cursive (which I haven’t used since about fourth grade), or if I was looking at a language that resembled English (like if Russian or Swedish were written right to left, I think I’d have a problem.)
I started writing again. I’m kind of excited about it. I’m trying to get to know my characters again so I’m writing little drabbles about them. I want to do one for each major point of view character and then see if I need to change the story outline.

I HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY THIS POST NOBODY GIVES A SHIT ABOUT BUT I’VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS SINCE LAST NIGHT AND THEN I PROMISE I’LL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT EPISODE.
So I’e been thinking about Mamoru’s bike since last night–I don’t have EVEN REMOTELY NEAR the knowledge about motorcycles as I do cars,so I was pretty much clawing in the dark thinking about it–and I finally found it.
Mamoru is driving was is likely a 2001-2002ish Honda Shadow Slasher:
Finding info on this was a tiny bit difficult because it was a domestic release only. (It was released as the Shadow Spirit in the US and Canada). But some fun facts about this bike which I think can only bring delight to the knowledge of Mamoru Chiba:
It’s an expensive ass bike. Part of this is that it was designed to invoke the American styles of Harley and Indian, and so that gave it some cachet in the domestic market, versus like what Haruka drives, that’s very much a little Japanese nyoom nyoom. It’s built for speed and not for comfort, while this is more of a luxury bike–it was sold, in the high end version (which this is not, more on that later, but I couldn’t find release prices for this model) for about $70,000 equivalent.
For contrast, you can buy a brand new Kawasaki Ninja off the line for $5,500 if your wife is not oppressive and will let you. That’s a cheap bike I’m contrasting it with, but, for contrast. A BMW 1600GT, which is MINDFUCKINGLY FAST, is about $30,000 to go buy one new TODAY.
So Mamoru’s a rich kid. Not that we haven’t had it subtly confirmed in other ways, but it’s OBVIOUSLY more than “My parents had this super nice apartment” because he had a ton of free yen floating around to buy this bike. PGSM came out in what, 2003? So this is, at the time, a brand new fucking bike.
Part two: This is the 400cc model. Honda also released a 750cc model. (Holligay, how do you know that this is the 400cc? Because the 750 only came in black) So Mamoru not only bought a very expensive bike, but he bought the slow version of that very expensive bike.
Again, for comparison, that cheap little Kawasaki Ninja I posted about above, has 300cc. AND WEIGHS 100 POUNDS LESS DRY WEIGHT. So while I can’t find top speed specs on the Shadow Slasher, I would think they have comparable top speeds.
What I’m saying is Mamoru is a rich kid in it to Look Cool. And while I truly believe the creators of this show are truly to also say “Mamoru is v cool” I take heart in knowing that Mamoru would pull up in that and Haruka would just be like “oh…haha, yeah I see what they were saying about you being into motorcycles”
