Airplane to Airplane Skype Video Conferencing

The conditions could only have been worse if one of us was on the moon or maybe at the bottom of the ocean…

I was chatting with my friend recently while on an international flight somewhere between Europe and North America - I found out he was also flying at 40,000 feet in the air in a tin can blasting over planet Earth.

So what are two geeks to do in a situation like this?  Use skype to video conference each other of course?  Would it work? Would the network melt down?

It actually worked okay - I took a screen shot and pasted the technical call details above…

5 second round trip time is about what one would expect in this situation.  I wonder how many satellites were involved in this marvel of modern communications technology?

Oh - and of course this blog post was published from the air too.

Enjoy the 21st century kids!!!
