Prompt #049 – Haunted
Title: A Ghost in The Corner
Summary: The attack of Air Temple Island has left him scared for himself and his family. He believes that hes going crazy, but in the back of his mind he still believes that someone is out there waiting for him to turn his backCharacters / Pairings: Tenzin
Rating: kIt had been years since the attack on the Island had happened. There were no more men out to kill his family; in fact his family had grown yet another child since. But Tenzin still suffered. Ever since those few months had passed, there were days where he would literally scare himself to death about what might be lurking in the dark.
Constantly he would wake in the middle of the night, believing that the ghost in his dream sat in his room, waiting for him to turn his head, to lose sight of his family, to let his guard down for just a moment. It was silly, honestly, to think that Amon sat there because he knew that that man had died long ago. Or at least had vanished to some remote location.
Tenzin would find himself counting his family, over and over, each day. There were times when he would hear a child crying and rush to the room in a panic, only to find that Pema was there calming them down. That there was nothing actually wrong, and she would tell him to calm down as well, because he was creating unneeded tension. The monks on the island began to murmur to themselves when he walked by, all jittery and wide eyes, the fearful thoughts rippling in his mind.
The sad thing is, despite the years of medication and treatment from the healers, there was little they could do. He would have to suffer through this by himself, slowly healing or getting worse. His mind was becoming more and more gnarled as his brain strained to understand and comprehend why anything and everything was happening. Tenzin had caused himself multiple injuries from stress.
Some days he could hardly function. There were times when he couldn’t even allow his family to leave his sight. And at times he would say something out of line and they would worry even more, despite knowing that he just wanted them to stay safe.
And each night he would sit there in his bed as his wife and children slept soundly, listening to the silence for signs of life, wondering if tonight would be the night that the ghost in the corner would finally make its move.
