When I start to think about the greatest songs ever written, I always bring this one up. Leonard Cohen was already a notable poet when his first musical recordings hit the world. He learned something presenting poetry at readings over the years, because the way he delivers the lyrics in this song, are so painful and beautiful that it’s pretty untouchable by anything his peers were doing at the time or ever for that matter. Turn off the lights and be enchanted by this one.
