New York City autumn - Central Park - Bow Bridge

Autumn in New York City: when the city basks in the brilliant embers of summer’s fire.

This was taken years ago during the first autumn of the year that I discovered photography.

What struck me when I opened up the folder with these early images of mine were the flood of feelings and emotions they evoked.

When I look at this photograph, I am instantly transported to that afternoon in Central Park and this is what runs through my mind and tugs at my heart:

the way the afternoon light slid slowly into evening washing over the fall foliage and rich algae-colored lake,

the way the trees glowed in the dappled light,

the way the crisp breeze kissed my face,

the smell of fire-wood that tickled my nose,

the hushed whispers of lovers basking in autumn’s glow,

the reassuring crunch of leaves underfoot,

the lingering warmth of summer resting alongside the early chill of winter,

the moment I realized that photography meant more to me than anything,

and the feeling that

nothing

would ever be the same again.
