Dresden Codak gets a public update schedule!
I’ve added a “next comic” date to the site that will tell you when the next page of Dresden Codak will be up! I usually keep an internal deadline, but since it takes a long time for each page to come out, I’ve decided it would be best to let you guys know how long the wait will be.
As always, thanks for reading and supporting the site!
Academic Analyses of Dresden Codak
I ran across the most interesting thing yesterday. Apparently a clever teacher of a “Narrative and Technology” course assigned her each of her students to analyze a page of their choosing from my comic. What I found were probably the most insightful things people have ever said about Dresden Codak. The spectrum of input, from both people who were longtime readers of comics or those who never bothered before, makes for a fascinating read. If you’re interested in webcomic analyses in an academic setting, you should check these out:

So guys, the Dresden Codak Kickstarter has been doing way, way better than I ever anticipated. We reached the original goal in less than an hour, and a couple days ago it became the 4th most funded comic Kickstarter ever. It’s bonkers, people, utterly bonkers!
If you know how Kickstarter works, there are often stretch goals, but all the amazing Dresden Codak fans burned through the ones I planned in two days, so I’ve had to come up with new ones! If you go to the site, you can see them all, but the big prize is this: if we hit $800k, I can update Dresden Codak biweekly for one year.
How does that work? Essentially, it will allow me to hire an assistant to handle all the non-drawing/writing parts of Dresden Codak (which is about 50% of my workload), and free me up to make more comics. Anyone who’s ever run their own business knows the innumerable small duties that can take away from the creative process, and seeing now that I have way more fans and supporters than I’d ever imagined, I want to up my game and deliver more of what people want.
Obviously I’ll do whatever I can to increase my content frequency regardless of the money, but the $800k benchmark is where I can officially make that promise and follow through.
Thanks so much, guys, and we’ve still got 21 days to go!
Let me tell you about Fake Geek Guys.
Polling regularly shows that I have more female readers than male, so we can safely assume most men only pretend to like Dresden Codak for attention.
It’s sad and pathetic, and usually pretty easy to spot. I mean, aren’t we all a little sick and tired of Fake Geek Guys pretending to like Dresden Codak, when they’ve probably never even read Hob? Or even worse, haven’t memorized every line of Dungeons & Discourse?
Most men probably only started reading Dresden Codak recently, and a lot of them don’t even read the comic, just my Tumblr posts about comic theory, and they STILL call themselves fans! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been at a con and some man is dressed up as Tiny Carl Jung (obviously to pick up girls) and can’t even remember the character’s name. We could do with a lot fewer men objectifying themselves just to get attention from the actual female fans.
Sure, some people say that in this female-dominated Dresden Codak fandom, we might be treating men unjustly, but all I’m saying is that it’s fine to be a guy and fan of my comic. You just have to take a test to prove that you’re a real fan, just like every female reader already is.
I’m not being prejudiced, I’m just saying some people should be prejudged.
How a Dresden Codak Page is Made
Ever wonder why it takes me so long to update my comic? A while back I posted a step-by-step breakdown of what goes into making a single Dresden Codak page. Hope you like it!
It’s that time again! There’s a bunch of new stuff in the Dresden Codak store that you guys should check out! New things include:
- Department of Opposition Shirts
- Church of the Empty Inbox Shirts
- Dark Science Alignment Cards
I’ve also got The Tomorrow Girl: Dresden Codak Vol. 1, which is, naturally, the perfect gift for those loved ones whose lives burn for a desire to read my books (also in a deluxe edition).
I hope you all have a great holiday weekend, and I’ll see you next week with the next installment of Dark Science!
The Tomorrow Girl: Dresden Codak Volume 1 is the long-awaited print collection of the first five years of Dresden Codak and includes brand-new art and content. Please support this Kickstarter if you’d finally like your own copy of my work!
