The Heat (dir. Paul Feig).

The Bridesmaids director’s latest female-centric film is a painfully unfunny and lazily constructed comedy. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy play a pair of predictably comically mismatched buddy cops forced together. The Heat is full off genre clichés, bringing nothing new except for both leads being strong women. Despite the pair’s natural chemistry, they are underserved by a weak script full of nothing jokes and a forgettable plot. Scenes go on far beyond their entertainment value as McCarthy overreaches and Bullock overcompensates. Their efforts and energy are wasted by the film’s overall meandering conception and execution.
