Enough Said (dir. Nicole Holofcener).
Holofcener’s latest comedy of errors is a charming film about middle-aged neuroses and dating after divorce. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a treasure and very appealingly funny, starring as the goofy, affable masseuse Eva. She’s struggling to move on from her marriage and letting go of her college-bound daughter. In his penultimate performance, James Gandolfini is utterly likeable as her well-meaning but slovenly love interest, while his ex-wife and Eva’s new friend (Catherine Keener) unknowingly sabotages their relationship without anyone besides Eva being the wiser.
Enough Said is so earnest in its exploitation of identifiable situations for its comedic purposes. It has just the right amount of quirk for an indie comedy with some startlingly true to life awkwardness in scenes that unfold with uncomfortable yet amusing candour.
