PLAYERS TO WATCH

Numbers are important, but it’s not everything, as all ballers are aware that there are many variables that do not show up on the stat sheet that can result in a victory or a loss. From the 50/50 possessions to solid screens, and most importantly, the famous offensive charge, this segment hopes to capture everything in between that the numbers might miss.

Let’s be real, sometimes stats can be misleading and in most cases, a true indicator for recognizing talent is by watching first hand with the old fashion eyeball test.

For the Sunday division, based on the players that played and suited up, here are my picks for players to watch (in no particular order) throughout the course of the season.

Fully Loaded - C Koby Agyemang (league leader in blocks and rebounds)

Agyemang is having one of his best seasons in his MB career and he has slowly developed into one of the better rebounders and defenders in the league. He simply works hard and his teammates do a great job in rewarding him by getting him touches. With this combination of hardwork and teamplay, the team’s undefeated record is no surprise.

Sky Hawks – PG Jordan Marlowe

Tough defender that plays PG the right way by getting teammates easy baskets and ensuring possessions are quality good looks. His numbers may not be eye popping right now, as the others on this list, but when you play against him, you will know what I’m talking about.

Fully Loaded – SF Jordan Wynter

Wynter’s is all-around player that does all the little things and his game reminds me of a younger Shawn Marion. Also, similar to the “Matrix” he can put you on a poster if you’re not paying attention. As Wynter is still finding his place on a roster of a new team, this former Megacity Champion knows how to play the game and it’s quite obvious of that when he’s on the court.

Joakim Noah’s Arc (JNA) – C Matt Terejko

First off let’s just state the obvious that this team name is awesome. Back to Matt, a very unselfish player with great fundamentals with a soft touch that can play big.

Raiders – PG Kinkay Smith

Composed guard that can pass effectively with either hand and he is very good in the catch and shoot scenario. In addition, to his strong PG skills he has solid defensive qualities by moving his feet and having active hands while pressuring the ball.

Stealth – SG/SF Nolan Gooding

This southpaw is a crafty ball handler that likes to get into the paint. Had a solid game against the Skyhawks with 17 points and if Gooding can continue this solid play there is no doubt Stealth will be in the playoff picture at the end of the season.

Stealth – PF/C R. Saliha

One of few players in the league that can play big and muscle his way into the paint, while finishing softly around the basket. In two games, Saliha is averaging a near double double with 17 PPG 9 REBS, while shooting 65% from the field.

SWAT – SF Atil Williams

His regular season stats may not jump out at you, but he’s one of the best at the forward position who is a great rebounder that has a natural act to securing rebounds. When AWill plays at a high level SWAT becomes really tough to beat.

SWAT – PG Jonathan Layne

Talented and skillful point guard that could score anytime he wants, but he has bought into the team game and doing a solid job playing his role. Similar to Awill, when Layne gets going and finds his rhythm SWAT becomes very difficult to beat.

Dreamchasers – C Shawn Conley

A true big in a league amongst men, so far Conley has not had early success in years past but to his credit playing on a new team is not the easiest transition and I anticipate to see Conley have bigger games as the season unfolds.

Honorable Mention:

Brian Rouse, Power

Nick Macera, Skyhawks

Ryan Wallen, Dreamchasers

Ryan Shepherd, Raiders

Doran Kozai, Northside

Illia Jitova, Northside

Finally, the following list of players reflect strong and respectable players to look out for, as their production and impact may result in good things for their own teams, which may likely result in unfavourable results for your own team.

Some of the players production on this list may drop or increase but this is expected, some may be MVP candidates at the end of this season, while others may not. But I can assure you one certainty and it is their value and impact to their respective teams will be vital and important as this season rolls on.
