A Change in Name

thegreatwadesby

Feminism has become a big topic lately, one that I am completely 100% behind, but i feel like it needs a change in name. Some of you will ask why. Some of you will support me. All I want is for people to become aware.

Feminism was not initially founded to support women and just equal rights for women, it was equal rights for ALL. So my questions is “Why is the title pointed directly at women?”

Many will answer that it is because women have less right and are given stereotypical labels. So are men however.

This post is not supposed to turn into “He is woman shaming and saying women have no problems compared to men” post. Women have FAR more problems than men, I just don’t want men’s problems to be looked over with the title feminism. In fact, it has become to the point where men ARE LOOKED over, and as a male with problems, I wish for my problems to be considered as well, and also the labels.

Why is it that we cannot change the name to a more unisex title? Why can it not be fairism, equal-rights supporters, or something of the sort. Why is it that if a group titled menism were to start, it would immediately be shamed and brought to a stop?

I now declare that it is not feminism anymore. We should all rise together and created a more suited, unisex name.

The reason why the name “Feminism"is important is because it recognizes that the scaffoldings of oppression that manifest themselves in financial, social, cultural, historical, and legal ways in our culture primarily benefit men at the expense of women and non-binary gendered people.

Neutering the name creates a false equivalency between the way that these systems of oppression target men, women, and non-binary gendered people. It suggests that a movement created by women and for women should not be primarily concerned with women.

And THAT benefits no one except those who want to sustain the status quo.

We do not nueter our movement for the comfort and benefit of those who profit from our oppression.
