Being a Community fan is the hardest thing. If we watched sports we’d compare it to being a fan of some team that never wins, but we don’t watch sports because there are shows like Community. We simply don’t understand why more people don’t love it. It’s a show about a loveable group of misfits who find family in one another. (Hilariously, we might add.) The cast is hysterical and they play off of each other so well (and they’re not bad to look at either). They can make an amazing Law & Order parody that was actually a really awesome Law & Order episode. And still, somehow this isn’t one of the most popular comedies on TV.
And the show’s not helping. Fighting behind the scenes, and then the creator goes and gets himself fired, leaving us to wonder what we’re going to get when the show finally returns in 2013. It’s like no one wants us to watch this.
But trust the Internet: A lot of people want to watch this. Because, so far, it’s one of the better comedies of this decade.
Believe us when we say that we’ll tune in for its return, but we, too, can settle for the season of brilliant episodes they gave to us this year. In a weird way, the last episode of the season was a perfect end to the series, so whatever happens with Season 4, at least we’ll have that.
And for those of you who don’t get it (I’m looking at you, Mom and Dad), we’ll just hold on to this as our own, filed next to Arrested Development and countless other cherished shows and movies we frequently feel compelled to defend. We’re used to not being understood, which is perhaps why we need a show about loveable misfits so badly.
Even in the darkest timeline, Hulu has Seasons 1 - 5 of Community.

I’m hopeful for Parks & Rec.—and Community—but anything can happen between now and May.

There’s talk that Community will return to more traditional sitcom elements this year. We talked to the cast about it. They assured us it won’t be much different than the show we loved.
“I mean, one of the main conflicts in the show right away is that not everybody can get into a class called ‘The History of Ice Cream,’” says Alison Brie.
What would History of Ice Cream entail?
“What do you think it would be about?” she says. “It’s called ‘The History of Ice Cream.’”
Touché.

Remember that time last year when NBC jerked Community around its fall schedule like a ragdoll in the mouth of pitbull (that pitbull being Animal Practice, by the way), then finally decided that it would premiere on October 19th, then decided it wouldn’t, for no real reason, then it aired in February all network-notey and different?
Man, thank God they didn’t do that again.
Anyway, October 19th became a sort of “Remember the Alamo” situation for fans of Greendale. Today’s that day.
We got the fellas over at The Morning After, our Hulu Talk Show That Could, to hang out in the Greendale Library and get the cast of Community to give their fondest remembrances of the Premiere Date that Couldn’t.
Get excited, Human Beings. Season 5 is three months away. We think.
