Where are Tranquil Tuesdays’ teas from?
The short answer is: from small family-owned farms in varied historical tea producing regions around China.
Of China’s 33 provinces and regions, 18 of them produce tea–mostly in southern China where it is sub-tropical or tropical climate which the tea plant thrives in.
As you saw from the last few week’s blog series on our recent trip to Anxi, Fujian for the Iron Goddess of Mercy Tieguanyin Oolong Tea fall harvest, we travel all throughout rural China, personally sourcing China’s full range of pure teas from small family-owned farms.
We currently have six different teas in the Tranquil Tuesdays’ tea collection, and they are each from a different region historically known for producing that specific type of tea.
Showcasing China’s Diverse and Unique Tea Production Heritage
We work directly with the families who grow, pick, and handcraft our teas, and we visit often to be able to source in small, fresh batches.
Additionally, Tranquil Tuesdays is committed to the importance of provenance. Honoring the traditions of high quality tea craftsmanship, each of our teas comes from its region of historical growing origin linked to its distinctive flavor, or terroir (remember we talked about terroir’s importance in tea?).
Sourcing Built on Personal Relationships
Tranquil Tuesdays has been working with the same tea harvesting families for years, and we are frequently invited to stay in their homes during peak harvesting seasons as you saw from last week’s photos. We believe it is really important to have a personal relationship built on trust and mutual understanding with the people we seek to partner with when searching for the best teas.
Bringing you Tea Directly From the Source
It is very valuable for Tranquil Tuesdays to be able to visit so frequently in person. Many larger tea purveyors use multiple tea brokers or middlemen and are unable to personally attest to the growing conditions of their teas.
We are able to share with you exactly what the tea farms look like, the growing and processing methods used for each tea, and the conditions of the leaves at each step of the harvest.
As you can see from the map above, Tranquil Tuesdays is committed to traveling around China to find you the best distinctive Chinese teas to showcase the diversity of China’s tea traditions and tastes.
