Only luck and good will has kept me in the Mission at this point. Every time I’m threatened with deportation to Oakland, or out of the Bay Area entirely, the freak-out at leaving the easy way Spanish in the streets mixes with boho grumblings is tempered with knowing that #infiveyearsthisllallbegoneanyway

I’ll move to the boho chic pods of Mexico City, or New Orleans, or Fruitvale, but for real people, the transition is harder. The Latino culture of the Mission will survive even when its neighborhood has been eroded of all the practical stores and sub-$9 tacos, but it’s diffusing.

So basically… this is the Street Seen shoot I’m most proud of and that makes me the most sad. I hope whoever inherits this neighborhood finds cute things to put in it that rival Silvia Ferrusquia’s jewel box of a store – that we packed with BDSM porn makeup artists, queer nightlife divas, and our models’ mamas, grandmamas, and sisters who all worked behind the scenes to make this shoot.

Here’s the shoot
