Front and back from my new book “Le Sacre du Printemps” screenprinted by hand at Bushwick Print Lab in September 2014. The paintings used in the book are inspired by Nicholas Roerich’s original costume designs for the 1913 premier of the Stravinsky/Nijinsky collaboration- yes, the world premier that supposedly sparked riots and the birth of “punk” in Western Civilization. I’m working on a Re-Imagined Rite of Spring, to create not a ballet enactment of a primitive trance ritual, but an actual primitive trance ritual inspired by a rough interpretation of Stravinsky’s score performed by untrained musicians. Here’s the link to purchase the book itself. I mix the colors directly on the screens, so every book is slightly different.
