I ACTUALLY REALLY HATE WHEN A GIRL HAS SMALL BOOBS SHES MADE FUN OF AND ITS SOMETHING TO LAUGH ABOUT AND TO SOME SHES HARDLY EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED AS A REAL WOMAN
BUT WHEN A GIRL HAS BIGGER BOOBS ITS OBSCENE AND TRASHY AND SLUTTY AND SHES DEMONIZED FOR SOMETHING SHE CANT CONTROL
THERE IS LITERALLY NO WAY TO WIN
The hypocritically sexist spectrum outlined in the above text actually happened within a 10 minute span during my 2D Design class in college. For a month or so, we did live portraits of a student who would pose for us. During the particular class in question, our model was a lady. She wasn’t close to being nude but she wore some sort of toga-type drapey dress that effectively showed her figure (identifying anatomy while drawing a clothed person was the general purpose of all these live portrait exercises).
Anyway, I thought mine was pretty good. At that time (as now, generally), I tended to make all of my portraits a little bit cartoony or comic booky in their style and design but I never did anything absurd, if we were looking at a real person (primarily because this teacher was an established jagweed and would penalize my grade if I strayed too far from his boring path). For reference: this is something I did around the same time (no, Yoda and Grievous did not pose for us, sadly).
My teacher apparently disagreed with my take, telling me that my drawing was “a bit too sexual” (his wording still makes me laugh because it implies that he was looking for some sexuality in this static, standard, non-sexual portrait but not TOO MUCH, KID).
As I drew the model in the exact pose she took, with the same expression, with the same amount of clothing she wore and the same amount of skin she exposed for everyone else (see also: as she actually appeared in front of us), I didn’t understand. He explained that I had made her “a bit too curvaceous” and that that was sexual. About ten minutes later, he conversely critiqued another student’s drawing because that portrait made the model appear “androgynous”. So, I draw her as she IS and it’s too sexual. Another artist draws her in a slightly different way and the subject is not feminine enough. NOBODY COULD WIN. AND WE WERE PAYING FOR THIS ASSESSMENT.
CUT TO: on the way out of the class about an hour later, the girl who posed for the picture asked for my portrait because she liked it that much.
