mechanical cuisine 2/3 (post 2)

  • “Oh, great,” he groaned. “Now there’ll never be any work done!”

The paper was a poster advertising the opening of the Flying High Pastry Shoppe in place of the old Madame Foote’s Shoes store. Right across the street from the Tigre Bianca.

“I don’t want to catch any of you sneaking off there during down time, y’hear?” Kakkhan glared at the men and women around him. “We can’t afford to slack off now.”

“Aww, Boss!” “Spoilsport!” “Damn!” “I knew he was going to react like that.”

“Quiet!” Tomori barked. “Take another look at that poster, Bossman. They do deliveries.” Those eyes had an unholy gleam.

So the poster said. “Fine. We’ll get them to deliver during breaks. Just no sneaking off or dawdling!”

“Yes, Boss!” “Aye, aye, cap’n!” “I wonder what they’ll have?” “Who cares! It’s pastries!”

“Thanks, Boss,” Eliku said, eying Kakkhan with some concern. Kakkhan shrugged, then finally let free the smile he’d been tamping down.

“Let’s enjoy this, everyone!” he called, brandishing the poster. “Lackey, we got room for one more on that bulletin board out there?”

“Yes, sir!” Lackey saluted. Kakkhan handed the poster to him and watched him zoom off outside the garage. Shaking his head, he turned to the rest of the rec. room.
