yesterday, Jackie and I recited e.e. cummings poems to a small crowd gathered under the Arch in Washington Square.

afterward, we heard a woodpecker.  we followed the sound and saw the woodpecker.

about 100 yards from the cherry blossoms, where we sat on the carpet of petals and read more e.e. cummings.

sound too precious?

it was just precious enough.

James Lecesne seems to always have good people around him.

the view from the balcony of our beautiful apartment where Lincoln Center is housing me includes the Hudson River and Pier 88, where 54 years ago on May 3, 1960 my family arrived in America from Sri Lanka.

the 9 of us stepped off the Queen Mary.  still high from seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time.

well actually 8 of us stepped off.  at 10 months old, I was carried off by my sister, Dawn.

I was still high from being born.

Dawn passed away during the run of THE WHO AND THE WHAT at La Jolla.

I am grateful my father brought us all to America.

it’s good to be back where we landed.

this is Lincoln Center around the time we arrived.

Bismillah.  we begin rehearsals in the morning.   continuing construction.

continuing on with my father and mother and Dawn.  without my father and mother and Dawn.

my new family begins rehearsal in the morning.

ready to do battle with the devil king of the 6th Heaven.

I welcome the 3 obstacles and 4 devils.  I thank them in advance.

Precious Lord, take my hand, lead me on, help me stand…

and so we begin in continuance

and love,

Bernie
