The Silentist

Gay Talese is definitely one of my favorite style icons. One thing I’ve noticed while searching for photos of him is how he’s definitely found a few things that work for him that’s in nearly every outfit he wears. For one, he goes for some rackishly-large lapels, definitely a throwback. Perhaps it’s his age and confidence that allows him to wear something that’s currently “off trend,” but you could never look at Talese and think he’s unstylish or being overly bold – at least in my opinion. He always looks at complete ease in his clothes, the fabric moving with him naturally. He has no pretense of looking as if he’s stepped out of a photoshoot for a lookbook, nor does he seem unconcerned with his appearance. What’s interesting to me is that I can’t picture him anywhere and think he’d be overdressed – even in the most casual of situations. He is the guy in the suit, but he’s not imposing any sort of uncomfortableness around him because he’s so much at ease.
