Bunheads- “Blank Up, It’s Time”

Fanny is back, and she brought company! Is it her boyfriend, or just a one time thing? I wonder which was more awkward: Michelle finding out about Fanny’s gentlemen caller, or her conversation with him about kinky breakfast?

Fanny’s man friend Michael (played by Richard Gant, most recently as Owen Sr. on MOACA!) is an old friend, an excellent pianist who’s always touring. Whenever he ends up in Paradise, they get together. Fanny is playing the old friend card, but we ain’t buying it! Get it Fanny.

Fanny is back to teaching her first class,(sharing strong opinions on cheer leading) and Sasha is still in bitch mode. She removed her hoodie to show tan lines from a bathing suit. We know of Fanny’s strict rules from last week, so that was not going to slide. She gives a very unapologetic apology and Fanny takes her out of her signature Fred Astaire/ Ginger Rogers dance and gives it to Boo. Not only is Sasha replaced, so was her partner. Boo’s partner is now Carl, and she’s kind of nervous about that. I feel she doesn’t think he can dance as well as the other boy, or that she’s taller than him. That can be awkward for them both, but they make it work! Carl comes off as a bit weird and stalkerish, as he scares her from behind while she’s working. He was helping her clean up and pouring water for other customers. he also talks about being a Jew and making homemade lasagna, so that automatically makes him a winner.

Fanny has free tickets to a local theater, and drags Michelle along. Michelle is already having problems with a woman who wouldn’t move for her to get through, so she’s clearly ready to be miserable. Both women during intermission are questioning what’s happening in the play, but Michelle shares similar banter with the director in the back. She was stuck in the back from returning to the bathroom too late, and wanted to avoid confrontation with the difficult woman. They exchange numbers, and Fanny basically tells her to get some. Michelle says she’d never do that with someone she just met, but ends up in bed with him the next day. Things seem to be going well, until she starts crying. It was the first time she’s been with someone since the night Hubbell died. She feels embarrassed, but the director says she could stay.

The next day Michelle just shares with Fanny that she was thinking of Hubbell. Before the class practices, Carl invites Boo over to hang out, but Ginny and Melanie answer for her, making him feel like a loser. Boo doesn’t really defend him or her feelings, but I don’t think that will ruin their relationship, as they share a kiss next week? Hey now! Coming in late as usual, Sasha in full goth mode (blue streaks!) and has the fastest banter in Palladino history with Fanny where she admits that she doesn’t need these classes- because she can’t do cheer leading and dance. Fanny tells her to leave, and we’ll see how long goth Sasha will last. I’ll give it a week.

Random Remarks:

-We see the girls in a new location: school! On a Saturday?

- Boo feels horrible about taking Sasha’s dance, so she treats her to a special dessert, with Tabasco sauce?

-Melanie spits out a Spinal Tap reference. They know what that is?

-Now that Boo has Carl, I hope we can erase Melanie’s stinky brother from the picture.
