Doing what needs to be done
I love Reddit. That’s where I consume most of my humor nowadays. In this article, Reddit co-founder admits that in the early days of Reddit, it’s activity was generated by many fake accounts run by the co-funders themselves. This served two purposes: 1) setting the tone for the type of content they wanted on their site and; 2) creating the feeling of an active vibrant site.
Some may think it’s manipulative. I think it’s brilliant. Why? Because at every point in a product/service’s life, you need to ask yourself “what’s the most important thing right now?”
For the Reddit folks there were two such important things, and they just solved them, doing lots of dirty work themselves.
They didn’t hire a PR agency, they didn’t hire consultants, they just did what had to be done. Execution execution execution.
I love Reddit.
