I first met Adam Roth through his work with Road Recovery, a NYC based non-profit that helps young people 16- 22 overcome adversity, in 2009. He was funny, had compassion for the kids & had a great sense of style & humor. I liked him instantly.
Adam was a musician and composer who worked with a wide range of talent that stretched from comedian Denis Leary to “Basketball Diaries” author Jim Carroll. He remained a fixture in the underground rock & punk scenes in the Lower East Side since he entered the circuit in the late-1970s playing at CBGBs & Max’s Kansas City. He also founded the Emerson College comedy workshop with Denis Leary in the 1970s while the two men attended school there.
In the early 1980s Adam played in bands such as the Del Fuegos, Hoy Boy and the Doys. He also met up & coming actor, Matt Dillon. They became friends & later Adam taught him to play guitar for his role in the movie “Singles”. Dillon is quoted as saying that Adam “looked like a punk rock Bing Crosby” & that he was a “pure & total artist”.
Sadly, Adam was diagnosed with stage four bile duct cancer in October & after a brutal fight, he passed away last week at 57 years old. He was a true original & a real character. While I didn’t see him often I will truly miss seeing him at Road Recovery events & him making funny faces when I tried to take photos. This gallery is dedicated to another person who has left this earth too soon. Sending my love & condolences to Adam’s family, especially his 5- year old son, Charlie Ringo. Fare well, Adam. We’ll miss you.
