The artist who works in clay and mostly known for his abstract cubed vessels has most recently taken on a new kind of research and application. He studies images and the mechanics of antique cars, he replicates table size clay models that have moving parts..
Ever wondered how a car is designed and engineered? Understanding how things work is a science, and in the Open Studios clay is being used as a tool for inquiry and creative execution. In Barnett’s most recent clay car rather than working on a vintage model, he concepts a greener, better car that improves air quality and turns gasoline into perfume. I guess clay and innovation can be used in the same sentence! As a visitor I am interested in what he comes up with next. As an art educator, I see a great opportunity to encourage a student to run with their imagination and use clay as the tool to find answers.
