The Goonies Locations: Then and Now
We were in Portland for the weekend, so naturally, the only thing to do was drive two hours out of the way to Astoria and track down The Goonies filming locations.

Our first stop was The Goonies House. Since everybody only seems to take pictures of the Walsh residence (and tumblr only lets me post 10 pics), I opted instead to include Data’s house (bottom row), which is literally next door. WHY NO LOVE FOR DATA’S HOUSE, PPL?

The County Jail the Fratellis escape from now houses the Oregon Film Museum. You can even find the Fratellis’ Jeep still parked out front.

And speaking of museums, the Astoria Historical Museum where Mr. Walsh worked is actually the Flavel House (top row).

After leaving Astoria, we drove down to Cannon Beach to find Haystock Rock. But it was a freakishly sunny and clear day for Oregon, so we decided to come back again in the morning.

Thirty-six hours later, we finally made it to Ecola State Park. I even got on a trail labeled “experienced hikers only” with my completely inappropriate shoes and purse. I know Goonies never say die, but nature damn near killed this city girl.

It was worth it in the end, though, since the fog rolled in and we were able to get near perfect matches to the scenic shots we wanted to emulate.
