Last night, we went off the beaten path somewhere here in northern Wyoming – because you know we always have an adventure to be taken!
Well, we lost phone service and ended up on a road covered in pot holes that obviously was no longer maintained. We hadn’t seen another car or person for a good hour or so, all while driving amidst a harsh blizzard. The elk, moose, and bison still lingered nearby. Just as dusk began to fall, we decided to call it a day. We turned the car around and caught glimpse of a magnificent lake covered in ice. The only catch is that it was way back in the woods.
We trudged through deep snow and were disappointed to see there had been a big mud slide that would put us some 12 feet above the lake with no way to get down on the shore. Needless to say, we found a way. Tall, rocky mountains filled the background of the icy lake, but heavy fog settled overhead as the snow continued to fall. There wasn’t a soul nearby except us. We walked the black sanded shore hearing the ice crack on the water and cold sand crunch beneath our feet. The cold wind whistled quietly around us, but somehow everything still seemed silent.
It was like we were walking in some kind of paradise in Narnia. The scene was prettier than any we’d ever seen before. We watched the sunset cast beautiful colors against the heavy clouds and when it was all gone, we headed back through the blizzard to civilization.
