The iPhone 5C & iPhone 5S Details and Features - Not a lot to cheer about
There was a time when Apple’s keynote speeches were watched the world over, live, as Steve Jobs would enthrall and enchant millions of people.
Well, that time has passed, and here’s what you need to know about the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C key features as well.
One big point of debate on the iPhone 5S details and features will be the iOS7. After the somewhat disastrous iOS6 launch, where maps were ridiculed and Tim Cook was called names, this OS is already receiving quite some criticism from reviewers and beta users. The iOS7 will be released on 18th September, 2013.
The first big deviation in terms of the phone itself, is the fact that it will now be available in colours apart from black or white. The iPhone 5C looks to wow preppy customers with green, grey, peach, yellow and blue variants, while the iPhone 5S comes in the more adult space grey, gold, champagne and silver.
Obviously, the most surprising part of last night’s release is the fact that Apple released two phones – the cheaper, plastic body iPhone 5C, aimed at the youth and lesser-spending users, and the iPhone 5S – for those who want “the best.”
The iPhone 5C is $99 for 16GB, and $199 for 32GB. The iPhone 5S starts predictably at $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB. The last, 64GB variant is obviously a response to the widespread discontent with the iPhone’s storage limitations, yet we will have to wait and see how many Apple fans it appeases.
We’ve spoken about the iPhone 5S specifications and features, now lets talk about the iPhone 5C.The iPhone 5C has the 4-inch display that we know so well, and is driven by an A6 chip. The iPhone 5S is the real powerhouse though, boasting a new A7 chip, which is compounded by a “co-processor” called the M7. When it comes to battery life, Apple claims it can last through 10 hours of 3G talk time, video playback and LTE browsing.
It sports a new fingerprint ID security feature, which would seem like a step forward if people were desperately looking to make their phones more secure. Apart from that, the most drool-worthy aspects of Apple’s new flagship product is the iSight camera – with the True Tone Flash feature and f/2.2 aperture, Instagram’s filters may be left alone for a while. The real kicker though, has to be the 120 fps slow-motion camera, which will blow open the mobile filmmaking capacity of a handheld device.
At the end of it all, I have started to doubt the direction that Apple is taking after the demise of Steve Jobs. Granted that Android and Samsung have come snapping at Tim Cook’s heels with vengeance, but Apple keynotes by themselves have lost their novelty.
