@saunterleftside and I found this adorable bunny by the side of the road. He’s a complete sweetheart, super tame, and very much a lost pet. He’s got a horrific, infected wound with exposed bone on his hind foot. We figured we’d find his owners, get him home where he belonged, and that was that.
We were so wrong.
When we finally tracked them down, we found out his previous owners had simply turned him loose outside several months ago when they decided they didn’t want him as a house rabbit anymore. Why? Because he chewed things. Don’t get me started on how angry I am about this. Bunnies chew things, it’s what they do. Releasing a white domestic rabbit into coyote territory is animal cruelty. Releasing any domestic rabbit into the wild is wrong for dozens of reasons. This poor bunny has been suffering for weeks, and may yet die, from an injury that would have been easily treated if he’d had proper care. I’m seething.
He’s only two years old, and he is the nicest bunny. We want to give him a chance. The previous owners have officially surrendered him to us. But this bun needs $1500 in surgery if he’s going to even survive. We decided we’d try a gofundme campaign, because $1500+ is a big expense, and we just can’t afford it. We’ll try to get the vet to let us finance it, but it’s going to be hard to swing even if they do.
If you can help, either by donating or by sharing his story, we’d be so grateful.
