These recreations of childhood photos are ho-hum-well-ok until… the last one. Wow.
The more you think about that one, the more moving it becomes. “Sometimes things do not go, after all, from bad to worse.”
Two things I’d been lamentably slow to notice about Sufjan’s No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross.
First: WOW, what an utterly EXTRAORDINARY song it is.
Second: a definite Simon and Garfunkel vibe going on in it. Check out Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. or Kathy’s Song for examples. Though I’m not sure you’d ever get S&G singing lines like “There’s blood on that blade / Fuck me, I’m falling apart…”

Wow. Intellectually, I knew some of the most commonly-used map projections distorted relative country sizes, but still amazing to see the true size of Sweden (to take just one example) when moved towards the equator.
Via The True Size Of…, one of those websites I suspect you could lose yourself on for hours.
