This Saturday (Jan 25th) I’m going to Germany, taking a class on cutting vinyl and if all works out, buying my own lathe. Who gives a fuck? … Well me… This year will be the 3 year anniversary of intheclouds, and it’s tough working with “developing” bands when you want to go vinyl-only. While many of you picked up on our releases right off the bat… If you haven’t noticed, we usually only press 300 and most of them are still in stock.
So back to the trip,… I started talking to this Germany dude a few months ago who created his own lathe and will only sell it to you if you go out there and he teaches you how to use it… getting a lathe is much like a CD burner… Except for vinyl. I will have to cut each vinyl individually - which sounds like a lot of work but I think will add to the customized packaging I already do with each release.
Assuming this thing doesn’t sound like shit, I’m going for it… It will allow me to continue to work with new developing bands without having to press the 300-500 order minimums that manufacturers require, just to sit on them for a year until people start to pick up on how awesome these bands are.
With that said, we’ve got big plans for 2014 and this is just the beginning! Check back here for more details from the trip, and I’m sure we’ll have pix and drunk status updates on our various social pages all next week if you’d like to follow along…
