Larry Page, James Cameron, ex-Microsoft CSA to create space mining company? If you believe the reports out yesterday on various news outlets, an improbable cast of investors have created a new space venture called Planetary Resources that will focus on “space exploration and natural resources”. Little is known for the time being beyond that… there will be an announcement on April 24th about what these guys will do. More next week on that then: it just might be one more nudge to get the aerospace industry back into space beyond LEO. And I’m thinking especially the boss-plus-couple-of-experts, garage hacker and VC-funded SME businesses that will power the ecosystem, the innovations and 70% of the jobs created (according to the OECD and little changed since 2004). Would be interesting to see what kind of technology enablers they propose to make their vision a reality…
