Zzzzzzzzzzz’…Tired

It’s official. I am so tired. I think I’ve officially hit the “ Burn Out ” stage in marathon training. While I think this is a perfectly normal feeling to be experiencing, I’m still a little worry wart. I am SO. DARN. CLOSE. to taper…and not to mention the race! I have two big weeks coming up. My final long runs with 20 & 22 miles the next two Saturdays. To say I’m a little nervous/anxious about what’s to come is a slight understatement. I was supposed to run one of my longer-ish runs with my super human runner friend Ashley, however, our schedules didn’t quite match up and she is off to Berlin to run her 3rd world major- amazing! So, I will finish out my last two hefty mileage runs with my fantastic MIT group.

This past week was a drop back week with 10 miles yesterday. I started out with the progressive group but dropped back half way due to the awful weather conditions. I didn’t want to do something stupid and put myself in jeopardy for my long runs over the next two weeks. I spent the remainder of the day yesterday horizontal on my couch watching college football. Followed by sleeping in until 9 a.m this morning, being super productive until around 12:30 p.m. when I then proceeded to lay back down again and sleep from 12:30-4 p.m. I swear I could have kept sleeping but I also knew I needed to get up. It’s like my body just can’t get enough sleep. I guess the best thing I can do is listen and just go with it.

Last weekend I think I tried doing too much after my 18 miler. I was on the go, go, go immediately after my run with no time to slow down and breathe. By 10 p.m. I literally could stand up straight and again, was beyond exhausted. Noted for the next two weeks after my long runs- keep it low key post run:)

Two more weeks….T-W-O! until I hit taper time. I received my start corral last week and I’m in D. Any other Chicago runners in D? I really can’t wait. I’m getting so excited, yet sometimes I think my excitement is covered up with nervousness. Again, normal- I think?:)

Aside from all of the race excitement, I also have vacation excitement! I fly back from Chicago on Monday to turn around and get back on a plane Tuesday to the Cayman Islands for a week. Such a beautiful thing…Words can’t express how much I’m looking forward to letting my body relax, laying on the beach, enjoying a few adult beverages, and wearing my ruffle dress, of course.

I won’t bore anyone with the last 2 weeks of daily workouts but, all I know it mileage is high, my legs are tired, I am tired…and I’m still strength training twice a week.

Looking forward to the start of a new week tomorrow. I can do this. Two more big weeks ahead. Head down and focus…

“ Running isn't  a sport for pretty boys…It’s about the sweat in your hair and the blisters on your feet. Its the frozen spit on your chin and the nausea in your gut. It’s about throbbing calves and cramps at midnight that are strong enough to wake the dead. It’s about getting out the door and running when the rest of the world is only dreaming about having the passion that you need to live each and every day with.”

-Paul MaurerWhy yes Paul, you nailed it.

20 mile recap coming next week- My 1st 20 miler- holy biscuits.
