The Comedian Comedians Were Afraid Of

The title may sound a bit dramatic at first, until you realize how true it is.

Patrice O’Neal was a legend that was taken too soon, and that loss shook up the comedy community. Adrian Nicole LeBlanc captures precisely his fearlessness and influence on the  and  what he brought to the table as in this great NY Magazine article.

If you aren’t familiar with her work, please check out Random Family, she’s an amazing writer.

Great article.

Must admit when I first saw Patrice live I didn’t get it. I could tell he was going off the top and doing lots of crowd work but I wanted to hear jokes. Now I understand his method.
