Guernsey’s Chris Simpson pushed the world number 1, Mohamed Elshorbagy, in front of his home crowd at the El Gouna International last night.
The Egyptian admitted he ‘got very lucky’ in his second round clash with the Sarnian. Simpson, currently ranked 24th in the world, played hard in all three games even forcing Elshorbagy to come from behind in the last two.

I played well, but that’s the way I want to play, and that’s the way I’ve been playing for the past few months. I don’t think I played that well, or the best match of my life. I’ve come to expect that level of squash from myself.
Now, I’ve got to start getting used to it, I should realise that’s it the norm, and when I’m ahead, not panicking. Throughout his career, Mohamed has always always played his best squash from behind. And tonight again, he proved that.
