Seeing past the obvious

At first I felt there was something banal about O'Keefe’s work - banal in the handling as well as the choice of motif. Now she is one of the artists I have grown closest too. Banality becomes affective simplicity. The direct stare at nature -and the simultaneous stare within- become enriched with a kind of deep wisdom. Now no-one has a more direct influence on my own work. How difficult it is to see past what at first seems so obvious… and how important it is to let go of opinions, like water through the fingers.
