I was preparing to feature another home tour for you guys when I found myself asking: Am I mislabeling this floor pattern? So I decided to change the direction of the post in order to outline the differing features of Chevron and herringbone patterns. The first 3 photos above are chevron patterned floors. At first glance, the chevron pattern looks cleaner. I like to think of it as though I’m creating an arrow. With a chevron pattern, you’d be able to draw a line right down the middle without disturbing the rectangular blocks. The blocks meet point to point and the ends are cut an angle, creating a continuous zig-zag. The last 3 photos after the diagram feature the herringbone pattern. Herringbone has a more complex look since the blocks meet perpendicular to each other, creating a broken zig-zag.
