Masterjohn says he understands why people like finding out this stuff about themselves: “I would runs lots of tests on myself if I had the money for it,” he says.

jimmy moore has openly talked about the fact that he is a young earth creationist on his blog, here is an example:

someone appropriately raised the question “then why is he involved with, much less becoming a leader of, the paleo movement”? 

It’s a good question, and a funny one, even though everyone knows the answer: he’s a huckster who really doesn’t give a fuck what the premise is as long as it’s promoting how thin you will be eating a lot of fat & meat despite the fact that he is over 300lbs and lost just as much weight doing ornish as he did on atkins before getting fat again after both. 

jimmy is religious: he operates on faith & trust rather than evidence.

This is no more apparent than when the particular brand of low carb he put his faith into (that is, as long as you’re mostly eating animal products calories don’t matter and exercise is counterproductive) failed him, instead of abandoning the hypothesis and changing his strategy he doubled down and looked for unlikely external explanations such as “metabolic derangement” & “hormonal imbalances”, and started seeing quack doctors to medicate him so he can eat 5000 calories a day while remaining sedentary without being fat. 

This is not a guy who should be a leader in an evidence-based or even knowledge-based movement, he’s more suited to his role as some eccentric character with a hypocritical physique who does a podcast where you can promote your latest scam while he lobs you softball question.

Who cares if Jimmy Moore doesn’t believe in evolution? Truth is, there is not much to this Paleo “thing”. Exercise, eat like a caveman and reap incredible benefits. Why do “we” or Jimmy have to subscribe to your version of purist Paleo? I bet many, MANY of the so called figureheads of Paleo have quiet doubts about evolution. Does that mean they cannot help people eat better or live a better life if they do not subscribe to your definition? You are trying to make this about elitist science (and you do not even have a higher degree!). Elitism excludes people. Why not make it about helping people?

Sorry, but no one who seriously works in science has doubts about evolution. I’m sorry if that makes me an elitist. but there is no “believing” in evolution, evolution is a fact and it’s frightening that anti-science attitudes have permeated this movement enough that this is a controversial or elitist thing to say. It’s hilarious that you and others would reap the benefits of evolutionary nutrition while rejecting evolution.

Also, how exactly do you exercise like a caveman? It’s almost as if we have our own version of Creationism in which people think their Crossfit workouts resemble something caveman did. I guess it doesn’t matter how silly that is if it turns out you think caveman didn’t exist. 

Either way, there are plenty of healthy eating movements that are compatible with Christianity, like the one mentioned in that Jimmy Moore interview. You can go to the WAPF conference and hear nothing about evolution. 

I would seriously suggest doing so if you think evolution is a fraud, since my pastor growing up was right. If you continue to expose yourself to things that are incompatible with those strains of strict Christianity, it will wear down on your faith. I am an ex-Evangelical and I used to subscribe to Creationism. Studying evolutionary biology in college caused me to stop being Evangelical and resulted in a lot of disillusionment with the church I had grown up in. 

So, in conclusion, no, I’m not going to accept things that are anti-science in the name of including people, and do you/others who are Creationists really want to be included in a movement that at its core is about something that threatens and erodes Creationist Christian paradigms?
