In New Haven, CT, you can go to your local library and pick up a pass that allows you to see shows at Long Wharf Theatre (LORT B theatre) for free. It takes a little planning but it allows anyone to see the show that takes initiative.

Yes, but I think one of the most wonderful resources the industry has created is the Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center which records and archives theater for posterity. History is important and you get better art when you look at more art. Watching Shakespeare in the Park from the seventies changed my life, as have National Theatre Live broadcasts. It is not only an issue of class and accessibility it is an issue of history.
