PTR’s NFL Conference Championship Preview
PTR’s NFL Conference Championship Weekend Preview and Predictions!
Last weekend was great! We went 2/2 on our picks for last weekend making us 6 for 8 overall in the playoffs. Who could have expected for Seattle to come out so flat in the first half last week then for Pete Carroll to call that timeout so late on the kick that *missed* and would have won them the game!? How amazing was it to watch Peyton choke AGAIN in the playoffs and see Joe Flacco and the Ravens’ receiving corps make the once almighty Champ Bailey look like he belongs in the Canadian Football League!? Brady did his Brady thing as usual in a rather predictable slaughter of Houston. Finally, two last words for the recap: Colin Kaepernick.
Let’s get into this week’s matchups…
- San Francisco at Atlanta
This game will be a very exciting spectacle to watch. Don’t expect a lot of sacks. The Niners’ defensive line couldn’t get much pressure through Green Bay’s leaky offensive line last week and Atlanta’s offensive line is much better than Green Bay’s. Still, the San Francisco defense managed to corral Aaron Rodgers’ passing attack for most of the game. And Matt Ryan is not Aaron Rodgers. Atlanta’s top pass rusher, John Abraham, hurt his ankle in the Seattle game last week and they got destroyed by Russell Wilson as a result. An Atlanta defense that had problems with Cam Newton twice this season and Russell Wilson last week will have severe problems with Kaepernick this week. Kaepernick also has the same amount of playoff wins as Matt Ryan (1) and showed amazing composure terrorizing Green Bay’s defense last week after throwing a pick 6 on his opening drive. Both offenses have a lot of weapons, but in the end it will be the 49ers’ run offense that will win the game. Having a powerful Frank Gore and explosive Colin Kaepernick to worry about will create multiple gaps in the Atlanta defense for the San Francisco to exploit.
San Francisco wins by 7
- Baltimore at New England
Baltimore made Peyton Manning’s Broncos look like Notre Dame against Alabama. Flacco threw impeccably precise passes over the top of the Denver defenders and the defense that rallied around Ray Lewis sent Peyton back to colorado to sell some Papa John’s pizza. What was an an incredible playoff performance by Flacco is something that Tom Brady likes to call “any other Sunday”. The Brady-led Patriots offense will get their passing yards in. Expect a big day for Steven Ridley and Danny Woodhead coming out of the backfield for passes and look for Aaron Hernandez to find that soft spot right in the middle of the field about 12 yards from the line of scrimmage as Brady picks apart the Baltimore defense. Still, Baltimore has all the will in the world and they have Ray Lewis to keep them focused. Ray Rice, if he doesn’t fumble the ball all over the place, has to have a big game for the Ravens to keep it tight. The bottom line will be that the Brady and Belichick connection will make the victory happen, even if they get down a few points in the first half.
New England wins by 7
