casual kimono

Introduce my old sewing project!  It’s Japanese traditional kimono from my home country. But mine is very very casual type and hopefully with modern touch.

These days, kimonos are not really functional and nearly for only special occasions unfortunately, therefore, almost all kimonos we can see are formal type. Basically, formal one is made by fine silk, and beautifully dyed or embroidered. But this is casual, like jeans and sweater, it made by rough wool with woven pattern, “sporty” short sleeve, no lining and coordinate with narrow Obi-belt.

it is sewn by hand stitch, composed straight lines and almost “no waste”.

I was really enjoyed wearing kimonos every weekends, when I lived in Tokyo, and learned a lot from kimono culture, especially about the concept and logic of dress code and manner.

Kimonos are not really functional also here in Amsterdam (cannot ride a bicycle!), but I’m enjoying them sometimes!
