Just sewed up my this year’s winter coat! I wanted a safari jacket (or called utility coat??) with trendy khaki green. So I drafted the pattern for this.

First, I considered to make an oversized parka with strings (I saw them everywhere and looks cool), but I found this safari jacket silhouette is more suitable for my body type. The pattern is based on a basic box-shaped jacket with a slightly shaped waistline. I need a hood for the Dutch weather, so I put a detachable one.

Too much big, bulky and heavy balance is out of proportion to my body type (I’m very short). So I tried to make the design weight on the upper side with a big collar or pocket placement for the better balance.

The material is slightly stretchy denim with some damaged wash treatments. The lining is faux suede (I could not find suitable flannel). The suede is very nice and warm for wearing, but it was difficult to sew as a lining.

Thanks for the details like the inside pocket, shoulder tabs or snap buttons, the simple basic pattern turned to safari-ish look as I planned. I’m basically very happy about the result. Long time for managing the many small parts was totally worthy. I’m planning to sew one more with smoky pink denim fabric.
