1. Realization

I have decided to give more time to studying anatomy. I have only bought one art guide before and it’s anatomy section was lacking at best. I have found a New art boom called “Cutting Edge Comic Anatomy”. It is strictly anatomy and it doesn’t focus on anything else about comics. It is mostly geared towards comic book anatomy but it is useful. It breaks down the body and focuses on trouble spots in ways most books gloss over.

I have been doing study sketches from the book and on my own when I realize something huge. I haven’t struggled with lighting in my drawings but instead I have struggled knowing the three dimensional shape of the body. That is what made shadows hard for me to process. It is all clicking now. I think I am getting better at this daily now. I can feel myself rising above where I once stood as an artist.

I kick myself for focusing on style and not substance for so long. I was obsessed with pose and not mechanics. It is basically relearning everything about my process but the end result is more natural and visually pleasing. I think I am starting to get this.
