One of the downsides of Doctor Who is that because of the way the show is written, it’s incredibly difficult to drop in on just any random episode for a quick hit of space and time traveling entertainment. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I had such a hard time getting into the show to begin with. But along the way, I’ve discovered a few stand alone episodes with each of the doctors that I truly love. So let’s start with the 11th Doctor. Here’s my top 4 episodes featuring the lovely Matt Smith.
4. The Eleventh Hours: Season 5 - Episode 1
If there is ever a moment to step in on the series, it’s when a new Doctor comes around. And Matt Smith does quick work of making us all fall in love. “You’re Scottish, Fry Something.” It’s a saying that is really under-appreciated, if you ask me. Oh, and young Amy Pond! So cute.
3. Vincent and the Doctor: Season 5 - Episode 10
I’m obsessed with this portrayal of Vincent Van Gogh. So sensitive. So heartbreaking. So sweet. And Bill Nighy! He’s one of my favorite actors ever. I could really do without that weird chicken thing, but you know, what’s Doctor Who without weird creatures?
2. The Power of Three: Season 7 - Episode 4
Two things you just can’t deny: 1. The Doctor playing the Wii is one of the most charmingly satisfying uses of Nintendo in the history of television. And 2. Rory is a hot nurse. Never thought Rory was hot before. Sweet? Yes. Total gentlemen? Yes. Loyal beyond measurement? Yes. Hot…? Hm. That was a tough call. Welp, those little black boxes must have had an effect on me.
1. Closing Time: Season 6 - Episode 12
Clearly I’m obsessed with this episode. I’m kind of annoyed with myself for being so damn attached to it, but I am and it’s all due to Alfie and Stormaggedon and the faux gay coupling between Craig and the Doctor… and now I’m squeeing.
What are your favorite episodes with #11?
We’re enjoying 30 days of Doctor Who during the month of March on Being Geek Chic! Since the show is celebrating it’s 50th Anniversary and Series 7 is rebooting at the end of the month, it seemed like the perfect time to reflect on why we love the Doctor, wish we could apply for the job of Companion and create our own Sonic Screwdrivers. So while we can’t board the TARDIS, we can spend a ridiculous amount of time replicating Amelia Pond’s signature look. Tell your friends and stick around for more. Allonsy!
