Joanna Hayes: Get your kits off and customise

2004 Olympic 100m hurdles champion Joanna Hayes wants to see athletes wearing customised kits.

“What I would really like to see is everyone’s name written on the back of uniforms. In most other sports this is commonplace, where fans can buy the jerseys with their names on the back. Can you imagine buying the Usain Bolt vest or Allyson Felix shirt?

“I think that would be really neat. Everyone would want to buy the Bolt vest and you could extend the range to include tank tops or t-shirts. It would also give the athletes a real sense of identity.

"Certain athletes could adopt a certain colour. Nike could create a colour for Sanya Richards-Ross or Allyson Felix.

"This idea could then extend to include training groups adopting a different type of vest. This used to be with Carl Lewis’ former club, the Santa Monica Track Club. I used to run with Bobby Kersee’s training group. I can’t remember who coined the term. I think it was Ginnie Crawford back in 2008. We presented Bobby Kersee with a t-shirt with BK riders. BK riders shirts could be great.”
