Good, deep, non monogamous parenting talks…
Super thankful for starting a more deep, more intential discussion group with Marco surrounding non monogamy. We had a discussion today with the What IF (Intersectional Feminist) Non Monogamy with the theme of parenting. It felt so good to be sitting and talking with other women and also with other queers about non monogamous relationships and parenting. We covered conversational ground that included ideas about how gender roles and body parts can affect co-parenting, how one needs to fulfill one’s individual needs to be fulfilling another person’s as a parent, and how different family / parenting structures look in our lives. I feel super privileged to have two partners that were present for a conversation where folks who had been the breastfeeding parent are expressing their struggles with becoming the default parent despite the best efforts of their partners to be supportive. I feel like I’m going to have so much care and thought from them because they are engaged and having discussions like this. And no one seemed to bat an eye when we talked about not assigning our child a gender, which is rare. I am really happy to have initiated this group with Marco, it’s good to have a space where we’re talking about non monogamy with others through the lense of social justice.
