thekingofthewood:

“I shall have your chambers prepared for your stay, then,” he decided, tilting his head at one of the guards, who immediately left the hall to carry out the indirectly spoken task. “Very well. He shall be given leave to pass and to return to the greenwood. The Elven path still stands; without the spiders’ influence he can easily find his way to the woodland halls."

While Thranduil knew nothing of his son’s desire to see the sea, he did sense a growing unease in the young Elf. With all that had happened that day, however, he decided to put off asking any more questions, and instead finished his goblet of wine. He remembered a day when he’d gotten drunk after his father had refused his request to see the lands beyond the greenwood. He wondered if he had driven his own son to do the same.

"Thank you father, I am sure he should be able to find his way fairly easily and he will appreciate the hospitality,” Legolas spoke calmly, and he too appreciated what his father was doing for his new friend, even despite the grudges and feud held between their two races. There was hope it seemed, for their races to live in peace and harmony together.

Part of him knew that his father had noticed the unease that grew in his heart and mind, yet the woodland king said nothing. He did not know what to say though. He did not wish his father to think it was his fault, it was nothing of the sort. It was simply the way things went, and nothing could control that.
