Here’s another one of the fantasy themed speed sketches I’ve been doing! This was one I did after the initial three. I’ve been getting Heather to feed me prompts for these, and this one is a mysterious character piloting a small boat with a sinister knight as a passenger through a swamp. I feel like I’m getting a little speedier and trusting my instincts a little more. This has been a pretty fun exercise overall! You should give it a shot (I’m sure some people do it all of the time anyway). Pick a theme you think is fun and see what you can get done in an hour or less! Don’t worry about “mistakes”! Just blast through it and see what you end up with! It’s starting to feel more like when I did drawings as a kid and it was 100% for play. Doing illustration professionally is all about a compromise between your instincts and creative desires (play) and the needs of your client (professional consistency, quality). The best feeling for me is hitting that golden spot where you achieve both! Gotta keep doing my art push-ups!
