See Better with Task Lights
You see differently than your coworker. And your coworker sees differently than your boss. We all have our own ways of seeing, due to individual variations in our vision. So, why is there just one level of lighting illuminating your office? Adjustable task lights, in particular the LED variety, can help correct this set-up.
Did you know that you need 10 - 20 times more light to view a paper document than to view a computer screen? The disparity is that great because paper reflects light, while monitors emit light. When implemented, adjustable task lights allow you to customize the amount of illumination needed to see a paper document. And customizable illumination is key because we all have differently aged eyes. Our eyes change dramatically after we hit the age of 40, and presbyopia (or “aging eye”) beings to creep in. As a result of having more opacity in the lens of the eye, less light can come through, so using a task light with various levels of brightness is essential.
Visual benefits aside, adjustable task lighting even makes people feel better about their work. One study demonstrated that people who used adjustable task lights rated their tasks as less difficult, felt more comfortable in the room and perceived the lighting quality as higher than when they were not using task lights to perform their jobs.
For the uninitiated, task lights are not the same as desk lamps, which are not typically adjustable and add to the ambient light. Unlike sturdy, stable task lights, desk lamps also frequently require you to move the base when you reposition the head. Offering customizable, brilliant illumination, adjustable task lights used in conjunction with lower levels of ambient lighting can create an environment in which you’re getting the right amount of light for the tasks at hand. Plus, due to their low wattage consumption and long life spans, adjustable LED task lights, specifically, have economic and environmental benefits, as well.
We’ve explored some of the myriad ways adjustable task lighting can benefit you. In a future post, we’ll write about how to select and correctly use a task light. By now, we hope you’re convinced that you need an adjustable task light, so check these out.
