Swedish textile industry calls for action on hazardous substances
Leaders of Sweden’s textile industry sent an open letter to
four European Commissioners to highlight their concern over the use of
hazardous substances. These substances can pose a risk to our health and the
environment and need further investigation and even have their use phased out.
Many Swedish companies adhere to voluntary restriction and information measures that go beyond the current legislation, but action is needed at EU level.
They maintain that common EU rules will benefit businesses, consumers and the environment. Taking action to limit hazardous chemicals could create synergies between the chemicals legislation and the Water Framework Directive as well as contribute to the UN’s sustainable energy goals.
