BlrDroid I/O Meetup - May, 2013

In this article we will recall and discuss about all the events held at this group’s latest meeting which was held on 25/05/2013 at Intel Technology India Private Limited, Bangalore. The main theme was:

  •  Further important discussions about Google I/O event 2013
  • IO: What it means to the Android Users
  • Networking Session—(mainly discussions about networking in android and its latest aspects)
  • Open House Discussion(there talk about Android Studio, )
  • Ending ceremony/ of this blrdroid meet up.

1ST Agenda: Google I/O event recall by Amrit Sanjeev

About the Presenter:

According to the sources Amrit Sanjeev is a Professional Android Hacker and senior Organiser of B.A.U.G Group. On the other hand he is Staff Engineer at intuit plus Architect for platform development there.

1st Agenda’s Main Points:

  •   This agenda was about all the announcements from both of the events Google I/O 2013 and BLRDROID meet up 2013.
  • There will not be deep drive in introduction to these technologies.

Introduction to the Agenda:

Little about Android:

GCM updates: (Google Cloud Messaging)

Google GCM updates were announced in the Google I/O event 2013. One of the Google Spokesmen said,“GCM now supports connections between a persistent connection from servers to many devices as quickly as possible,” Further on he said “It is also launching upstream messaging to send data in the other direction — from the app to servers.”

New API is also launching which will be included in this GCM update and it will sync notifications across the devices. 

Apart from the up streaming update the spokesman further said “All of the new features are rolling out progressively, and all you have to do up is sign up starting today,”

Games:

On the event of Google I/O, Google told about the new gaming system on android to the audience. According to Google soon the whole gaming system on android will change e.g. Cloud saving system will work mean Google will track all of your leaderships, achievements, scores etc. from the particular game and will automatically update your status against a game in social areas. If you are finding it more complicated than do a study of “Game centre” in IOS by Apple, the system android has announced will be same as Apple’s but there will be minor changes to it.

Google Play Developer Console:

Google did a long discussion on this topic and introduced the developers to the new added features in the well-known G.P.D.C:

  • ·Recognition for tablets is one of the new features e.g. if you visit Google Play from your 10-inch tablet, Google will automatically detect it and will show you great compatible apps for your tablet on the home screen under recommendation tab.
  • Google have introduced “Beta testing” and “Staged rollouts” which will help the developers to get their reviews on their designed apps privately and update their apps in the development stage to make sure the users are happy from app. The Beta testing has been made private on Google play for the developers and developers are free to decide that specifically who to get these versions by adding Google+ Communities and Google Groups.
  • Minor updates have been made on Alpha testing.

  • Google announced their major updates to Localization settings to the developers. According to the Google I/O event, now there professional translations available to be purchased from G.P.D.C. This software will surely make it easy for developers to add their desired languages to their designed apps.
  • One more change by Google under Localization settings the new optimization tips for localization. This program will help developer to easily identify the new potential opportunitiesfor global expansion based on popular languages for your app’s users and category. Apart from this, it will also help you to remember if the developer is missing any important steps/step while localizing their designed app into a language.

Extra Added Features:

  • According to Google new Analytics and monetization features have been added for making the process of revenues from the developed apps easy.
  • Google has announced its upcoming feature which “Google Play for Education”. 

Android in Education:

Google has made an announcement in the i/o event about the future prospectus of introducing the Google Play in field of education. Google has a mission of bringing a new change in the classrooms e.g. integration of tablets/computers with the main Google setup of education in its headquarters etc. for the complete resource visit Google I/O’s main website.

Conclusion:

So the points discussed above were the major ones in the first agenda of this meet up. Apart from these points in the last there was discussion on some new/current applications from Google to Android in the form of Power Point Presentation. 2nd Agenda: I/O: what it means to the users by Hiemanshu

This was half an hour agenda so there were mainly discussions about the Usage of products which were introduced in Google I/O event 2013.

The Vanilla S4:

At the recent Google I/O event, Google has announced to release the new Vanilla Samsung Galaxy S4. Here (The term “Vanilla” designates an un-skinned Android version) version for the Galaxy S4. According to Google initially the device will be only released in US for $649 and the availability for the international version is not disclosed yet. Specs of the device has been undefined and as spokesman at Google themselves said “It’s like a Nexus but it’s not a Nexus”

 Google+ Hangouts:

This was second theme of 2nd Agenda. In this theme there was brief introduction given in form of points, about some little updates and developments in Google+ Hangout.

  • Great Group Conversations
  •  In between Group chats, photos can be shared easily plus addition of more people in the chat
  • Conversations made more better with Emojis
  • Easy to snooze the hangouts/conversations and then re-join
Google Play Game Service:

As in the first Agenda there was again little bit talk on this upcoming game service by Google.

Playing with Education:

Under this section, the audience was told about the future prospectus of Google to introduce new services in the field of education.

  • Integration of Tablets/ School PC’s with the Google Education centre
  • Availability of Books on maximum topics and feature to buy them online in bulk orders.
  • Online Teacher Resources and recommendations.

Radio and Music Enhancements:

Audience was told about the several enhancements made in the radio and Music playing on Android:

  • New interface for radio
  •  Radio playing without rules
  • Users are allowed to manipulate playlists
  • Introduction of “Play Music” App from the Google. It is preinstalled in jelly bean version.

Chrome Enhancements:

Audience was told about the two major features introduced in Google chrome:

  • Direct Questions can be asked by talking to chrome because of Voice Recognition.
  • Knowledge of graphs in chrome with Voice Search

 

Maps on a Quest:

The attendees were told about the maps changes introduced by Google.

  • Users can experience sky diving without parachutes virtually.
  • Live cloud view has been made possible
  • The day and night differentiation has been made

So these were the main points discussed and presented by Himanshu Sharma in the 2nd Agenda. Apart from these points in the end he showed some minor introductions by Google in the form of points to the attendees and added two terminates from Google I/O event 2013.

IO13 : What it means to the users from blrdroid

When the 2nd Agenda ends, there was 20 minutes session of Networking and in the last session of this meeting, Open House Discussion was held and after that in the end Google I/O t-shirts were distributed to all the members. This session was held 11.50 am onwards and was attended by all the attendees present there.

 In the Open House discussion the senior developers there and attendees discussed about the Android Studio and its features, below there is description of Android Studio by the developers on site.
