bichaaa asked: Hii, first off just want to say i love your blog! But my quest for you... No matter what i do/try my eye shadow always looks sooo messy! I know it takes prac but is there anything you recommend for a more even/flawless look?

Thanks babe! :)

I think to get a really flawless, blended eyeshadow look you need three things

  • Good Brushes
  • A Transition/Blending Eyeshadow Color
  • Mixture of Matte and Shimmer Shadows
  • Having a Good Base/Primer

Brushes can make blending SO much easier and basically does the work for you! I’d recommend investing in one or two good blending brushes like the MAC 217 or the Sigma E25, a cheaper option is the Coastal Scents Pro Blending Fluff which you can get here.

A transition/blending color is an eyeshadow you use to blend out another eyeshadow. Sometimes it looks messy if you blend out eyeshadow alone but by using a blending color it will help the previous color fade. For example if you’re doing a brown smokey eye using a light, almost skin tone colored brown in the crease will help any other browns fade into a lighter brown. A lot of eyeshadow beginners don’t have many transition/blending colors because they are matte and “boring” but they really help pull eyeshadow looks together! Blending shadows are usually matte medium browns, skin tone shades, greys, taupes. A lot of people put their transition color in the crease before any other shadow! Your transition color depends on the eyeshadow look being cool or warm, on a warm eyeshadow look you’d use a brown blending color on more cool looks you’d use a light taupey brown or grey shade.

A mixture of matte and shimmery colors ties into using a blending/transition color. All shimmery shadows will look really mess and just sort of mush together. Using matte colors in the crease to the brow bone can usually help eyeshadow look more neat and put together!

Having a good base or eyeshadow primer will help the eyeshadow blend easier on the skin. Sometimes eyeshadows won’t go on as pigmented or blend as smoothly looking chalky/powdery on bare skin. Any veins on the eyelid will show through as well making the eyeshadow look less flawless. Try using an eyeshadow primer underneath to help the eyeshadows stick to the lid and blend better better.

Good luck hun! <3
